UNA’s Summer Theatre Program

// May 30th, 2008 // No Comments » // Art

Well, my first website for the University of North Alabama has finally launched. I’ve only been in this new job for two months, and haven’t really had anything major launch yet. The website is for our upcoming Summer Theatre Program in July. We are bringing in Vicki Lawrence ,from the Carol Burnett Show and Mama’s Family, along with many other theater professionals to hold several perfomances and workshops during the entire month of July.

Take a look at these screen shots, and head on over to the site for all the information.

Master’s Thesis on the ‘ampersand’

// May 28th, 2008 // No Comments » // Art

I came across this project on a new blog dedicated to the ampersand. It is from Rebecca Alden.

Hand drawn ampersands

Her Master’s Thesis seems very interesting and original. Here’s what her website says about the project:

One danger of using computer-based fonts exclusively is it moves us away from the strange little things that happen when we write by hand. It is important to preserve the changes that have occurred in our handwriting in recent times. 100 people were asked to draw the symbol they use most frequently to replace the word ‘and’ in writing. In these posters, the magnified and overlaid symbols show the similarity amongst the various handwritten ‘and’s. Men’s answers are blue; women’s answers are pink. The final outcome of this project was to create three new symbols for ‘and’ which currently do not exist in computer based fonts.

Fifty Thousand Shirts

// May 22nd, 2008 // No Comments » // Art, Life

One of the guys behind Red is White has come up with an inspiring way to raise $1,000,000 to help with the devistation in China. The 7.9 earthquake they had on May 12th has cause mass destruction, and the death toll has been climbing ever since. The total death toll is said to grow to be 50,000.

Steve, an owner of Clear in California has launched fiftythousandshirts.com. He has designed a t-shirt that sends a message of hope. The goal is to sell 50,000 shirts and raise $1,000,000. The design is a giant ‘X’ made of of 50,000 unique tally marks, all hand drawn, representing each individual lost in the earthquake.

1 x 50,000 = HOPE

Please go to this website and reserve your shirt today! Each shirt will be individually numbered and all involved will have their names recorded on the Wall. You can be a part of something important. You can be hope.
