Charley Harper

How awesome is Charley Harper? I can’t get enough of seeing his work. I’ve been inspired by him for a long time now since early on in art school when I discovered his bird illustrations. Such great work, that is now being mass produced by Old Navy’s baby girl clothing.

I’m not quite sure how I feel about Todd Oldham taking control of everything Charley Harper. Not sure what the relationship there is, but I am glad that more people get the opportunity to see the work of Charley Harper…even if it is in the form of a baby puzzle.

Avery learns to write

// July 19th, 2008 // 2 Comments » // Family

Lately, Avery’s future career of choice had changed from a firefighter to an artist.  More specifically a painting artist. Although she has phases of wanting to be a marker artist too.  We’ve been really working with her on learning the alphabet.  She can sing the alphabet song now pretty well, and she can recognize a bunch of them if she sees them.

We’ve moved on to showing her how to write the letters.  We’ve found chalk to be the most fun for her to use, and she loves it.  We have an alphabet poster hanging on the wall in our play room, so we’ll reference that when we pick out a letter to draw.  We draw all the letters, but ‘A’ is our favorite because her name starts with that letter.  She’ll go up to the poster and look at the picture and try and figure out what letter it is.  Once she has it figured out, she’ll go back to her chalk table and practice drawing it.

The other day while she was being a marker artist, I was at work, and Christi was in the living room with Hannah when Avery came running in screaming “I drawed a letter! I drawed a letter  ’A’ !”.  Sure enough, she drew the letter A all by herself without any instruction.

Avery writes the letter \'A\'

We are so proud!  She’s not even 3 yet (but will be in September) and we think she’s a genius.  The picture above is her showcasing her lasted marker artist creation.
