Avery learns to write

// July 19th, 2008 // 2 Comments » // Family

Lately, Avery’s future career of choice had changed from a firefighter to an artist.  More specifically a painting artist. Although she has phases of wanting to be a marker artist too.  We’ve been really working with her on learning the alphabet.  She can sing the alphabet song now pretty well, and she can recognize a bunch of them if she sees them.

We’ve moved on to showing her how to write the letters.  We’ve found chalk to be the most fun for her to use, and she loves it.  We have an alphabet poster hanging on the wall in our play room, so we’ll reference that when we pick out a letter to draw.  We draw all the letters, but ‘A’ is our favorite because her name starts with that letter.  She’ll go up to the poster and look at the picture and try and figure out what letter it is.  Once she has it figured out, she’ll go back to her chalk table and practice drawing it.

The other day while she was being a marker artist, I was at work, and Christi was in the living room with Hannah when Avery came running in screaming “I drawed a letter! I drawed a letter  ’A’ !”.  Sure enough, she drew the letter A all by herself without any instruction.

Avery writes the letter \'A\'

We are so proud!  She’s not even 3 yet (but will be in September) and we think she’s a genius.  The picture above is her showcasing her lasted marker artist creation.

Blue Transformation

// May 11th, 2008 // 2 Comments » // Family

Since we bought our home back in March, we have been best friends with our local hardware store. I’ve had to fix several pretty minor things, and remodel our living room. Our latest remodel started when Christi got an urge to peel off some wallpaper to see what was beneath it.

Our so-called blue bathroom is named as such because of it’s overwhelming use of blue. Blue tile floor, blue sink, blue toilet, blue tub, blue tile 3/4 up every wall… you get the idea. Well, above the blue tiled portion of our wall was a hideous old lady blue floral wallpaper. We didn’t really plan ahead, so we don’t have any before photos to show. Trust me though, it was UGLY! Read the rest of this post to see some photos of our result!
